Asian Temples that Adorned Bodhgaya

Many temples and monasteries over the years have been built in the vicinity of Bodhgaya site by Buddhist societies and devotees from different countries. Each temple has its own tradition style and design. Among all, Thai, Japanese and Tibetan Temples are most impressive. We missed the notable yellow sect Gelgupa Tibetan Temple with a huge prayer wheel, as it was closed when we were there but we visited the splendor Bhutan Temple.

The comparatively new and brightly painted Bhutanese Temple is attractive.

The Bhutanese colorfully decorated shrine hall.

The Tangka drawings at ceiling and Bhutan paintings at wall are gorgeous.

Standing at the foot of one of the Bhutan Buddha images, is a photo of Bhutan new wed king and queen in their beautiful tradition costumes. The royal couples look like are highly respected by their people.

The newly built Bhutanese temple is located at the corner of main road just next to Japanese temple.

Wat Bodhgaya Thai Temple is one of the most impressive monasteries in Bodhgaya. It was built in year 1956 by Thai King and Indian Prime Minister as an initiative to strengthen the relationship between two countries.

It is so coincidence that the Buddha golden Image enshrined in the main shrine hall is exactly the one we have it at home. It was gifted to us by a master from Thai who visited our house with a local monk.

The building of Chinese monastery is simple in design but sober in expression of faith.

There are two Japanese temple in Bodhgaya namely Daijokyo and Indosan Nipponji. Both have simple designs with neat gardens.

Front view of Indosan Nipponji temple and its bell tower.

The Japanese styled stone stupas and memorial monument were built in memory of the demised ones.

There was a story about the little white old chapel but regret I could not recall.

The magnificent main shrine hall housed a dignified image of Buddha.

We loved the fascinating designs drawn at the ceiling of the main shrine hall at Indosan Nipponji temple.

Crowds of students flocked in to the site of the 24 meter high giant seated Buddha statue, to pay respect or to enjoy the sight????

The Japanese Kamakura styled seated Buddha statue in the posture of Dhyan mutra position was unveiled by Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama on 18th November 1989.

Both sides of the seated Buddha are lined up with Arahats standing statue.

Hand cleansing rose water provided before meal and the local snack and desert we had in Imperial Hotel.

Its our breakfast!

Its our lunch!

The chef of Imperial Hotel where we put three nights when we were in Bodhgaya. He was the one who came for our order and prepared our meals during our stay in the hotel. Imperial Hotel is a new hotel just partly opened for business recently.
