The Eight Vistas of Danyang, South Korea


The eight views of Danyang which are known as Danyangpalgyeong in Korean, are the eight selected beautiful scenes of town famous rocks and peaks of this mountainous region. They include (1) Dodamsambong (2) Seongmun (3) Okssunbong (4) Gudambong (5) Sangseonam (6) Jungseonam (7) Haseoam (8) Sainam



Sainam Rock are hundreds of funny shaped cliffs soaring into the sky from the stream deep inside the mountain. Water course flowing down Sainam, meandering into the Haegum River.




Green old pine trees on the rock floor and yellow tall ginkgo tree along the river bank echo to each other, forming a colorful and picturesque landscape of Sainam.



Village with little cottage houses lying next to Sainam, breathing together with it, calm and relaxing.


Jungseonam Rock was named at the time of King Hyojong during Joseon Dynasty by a civil minster. The writing he carved on a large rock contained meaning of "most beautiful"





The crystal clean water flows over the rocks in tires



It's an ideal place for family to spend their summer holiday.





Huge area of Danyang Apple Farms are protected by electrical fencing. The popular Jungnyeon Apples grown under such clear and clean unpolluted circumstance, are very sweet, crunchy and juicy.





Sangseonam Rock was named by a very capable student of Uam in the period of King Jeongjo.



This scenic place was formed by a grand rock combined with all sorts of rocks.






Haseonam Rock, secluded in the valley, is the first scenic place at high mountains. There are three layers in the rock at a width of 33 meter providing a wide yard . Big round rock on it is something like a figure of sitting Buddha so it is also called as Bulam (Buddha Rock).














Autumn arrived Danyang



Oksunbong (Bamboo Peak) forcibly soaring like bamboo sprouts from water of Chungju Lake, was named by a county magistrate at the time of King Myeongjo during Joseon Dynasty . He carved the word "Dangudongmun" on the stone wall making the place became Gate of Dayang.



Gudambong was so called Turtle Peak as it resembles the shape of Turtle and also turtle was found in the rock under water.


Views of surrounding areas along Jebibong via Chungjuho water tour are spectacular.


Geumsusan is a lofty mountain with height of 1016 m above sea level. It is located in northernmost of Weolaksan national park.





Geographical feature of Geumsusan mountain offers a distinguished scene .

Dodam Sambong (Three peaks Island) representing the typical love triangle of ancient Korean, husband, wife and a mistress is the most popular among the 8-wonders of Danyang.



Dodamsambong is located in the flowing water of Namhan River.



The statue of Jung Do Jeon who was a meritorious retainer of a dynasty founder. He named his pen name after this place where he spent his childhood .







We had the best sundubu-jjigae (taufoo soup) and sanchae-bimbap (wild vegetable meal) at the little restaurant introduced by our driver.



Seokmun appears exactly like a Stone Gate in the shape of the rainbow on the left side of Namhan River. We have to ascend upstream 200m on stone stairs from Dodamsambong to have the marvelous view of this wonderful nature.



There is a Magohalmi Rock a little bit upward from the Stone Gate, with a figure showing grabbing of bottle and piping at mouth. Legend says that Magohalmi loved alcohol and cigarette, stayed and died at this place and finally became a rock.





Namhang River with a length of 24 meter flows quietly through the county. It is the upstream of Han River in Seoul.
