Morning Market - Inle Lake

Morning market is the most busy and bustling place at Inle Lake. It is a place where you sell what you have and get what you want. There are also places that hold the market once in five days. Water way is the only access to morning floating market!

Tourists, villagers, mountain tribes filed up the whole market with food, goods, products, accessories and boats plus bull carts. The only thing absent is the toilet. Nature calls have to be answered under bushes or behind the trees.

Equally congested as on land but knocking each other wont get vehicle dented or damaged, so no apologize, no argument, give way or let go, as simple as that at this high peak time.nn

A sight of colorful water vehicles in the peak hour of morning market.

Mountain tribes in their traditional gears gathered at the market selling their stuff and having their meals.

People gathered at a place of abundance, making living and enjoying meals. A place where you can obtain Shan tradition rice, home made rice wine and some hand-made handicraft.

Beside food sellers, the market also has dentists, barbers, tin-smith, cobbler, tailors using the ancient tradition way to pull teeth, cut hair, repair watches, mend shoes and clothing etc.

There are also stores selling spices, betel nuts and its wrapping leaf, local herbs and handicrafts etc. by villagers from all corners.

Green eggplant, mountain yam, wild french bean, lentil made toufoo and many other wild grown plants and products were displayed for sales on the floor in this open air market.

Some of the locals display goods on their boat and promote to tourist while they are on the way to morning market. One of the Intha lady approached a boat of European tourists for her jeweleries like jade and some other precious stone while the couple was selling some local handicraft.

They have what we dont have - a mind of peace.
